- Climate Week
Climate Week (12-18 March 2012) is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign, inspiring a new wave of action on climate change.Culminating in a week of activities and events, Climate Week showcases the practical solutions to climate change being developed in every sector of society.
For 2012, Climate Week is launching a new campaign, Climate Week Cuisine, which highlights ways to eat delicious food that costs less and is better for the environment. It is a chance for people all over Britain to show how the food that they eat can be a part of the solution to climate change.
Climate Week Cuisine is a national call to action to encourage people to eat a low carbon meal during the week. Here are some of our easy tips for ways to make your meal more environmentally friendly:
Less meat and dairy as they have high carbon footprints. Why not make a vegetarian or vegan meal?
Eat local, seasonal ingredients. Choose ingredients that haven’t come from half way around the world. Eat a meal with fresh produce that is in season.
Use up leftovers. Turn yesterday’s dinner into today’s lunch. Instead of throwing it in the bin find a way to turn it into a tasty treat for later.
For inspiration on what to cook check out our sustainable recipes from celebrity supporters, including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Atul Kochhar, Prue Leith, Levi Roots, and many others.
Climate Week wants to know what you ate and who you shared the meal with. Make sure you register your low carbon meal on the Climate Week website at http://www.climateweek.com/eat-low-carbon/
