An inspirational former pupil from Harrogate Ladies’ College has recently climbed the great Tanzanian giant, Mount Kilimanjaro, to help support world-wide charity, Childreach International.
Jez Horsell, HLC 2009 alumna, spoke as part of the School’s insightful lecture series, designed to provide pupils, parents and friends with the opportunity to listen to the experiences of others and aspire to discover some of their own.
Jez, who is currently studying at Hull University, was the Events Manager and Team Leader for the expedition, successfully reaching Uhuru Peak and raising more than £2,600 for charity. Jez’s personal fundraising added to a group total of more than £36,000.
Hearing about Jez’s exciting journey inspired the audience, and reminded all who listened of the great successes that HLC alumnae go on to achieve.
HLC Headmistress, Rhiannon Wilkinson, said: “Jez’s trek and her achievement of reaching the Kilimanjaro summit is awe inspiring. On a daily basis, our girls are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and take on new challenges. Jez embodies this HLC spirit even today.”
Jez Horsell said: “The Kilimanjaro trek was the hardest thing that I have ever done. I am so proud that I was able to lead a team and raise so much money for charity.”
All funds raised will be donated to Childreach International which will help to provide essential equipment for Tanzanian schools.
