Twenty-five pupils, parents and staff – and one dog – from Our Lady’s Abingdon (OLA) donned their Santa suits to take part in Oxford’s fifth annual ‘Santas on the Run’ event, this year held on Sunday 11 December, in aid of Helen and Douglas House.
Despite the winter chill, the team were among the 1200 participating Santas on the start line in Catte Street at 9.30am. By the end, every OLA Santa had finished the two-mile course, raising a whopping £2000 for the charity through online sponsorship, with more donations still to be counted.
“One of our Year Six pupils suggested the school put in a team of Santas for ‘Santas on the Run’ for the first time this year and we are all delighted with the amount of money they have raised for such a wonderful cause,” said OLA Junior School head Brendan O’Neill. “Many more parents from OLA would like to have taken part but the event is now so popular that it was over-subscribed. Certainly it was a great occasion and we were very proud of the OLA Santas’ effort and enthusiasm.”
